Air Conditioning Filters - How To Maintain Air Conditioning Filters

Air Conditioning Filters - How To Maintain Air Conditioning Filters
By Ricky Lim

In sweltering hot summers, the cool breeze from the air conditioners becomes a welcome respite that helps in rejuvenating from the heat. However, in order to maintain the perfect cooling conditions of the home and office it is very necessary to maintain the air conditioning filters in their optimum conditions.

If the air conditioner has poor filters, it will cause inflated electricity bills. This can cause double burden on the user as both the air conditioner as well as the electricity bills will cause trouble.

Thus it is very important to have proper air conditioning filters. It is very necessary to get the cooling unit regularly checked in order to clean all the dust particles. These particles make the cooling poor as it gives load on the unit that increases the electricity bill.

If the air conditioning filters are not working properly, you should not waste much time and call the mechanic in order to rectify the change. If the filter is not working properly than the air conditioner will not provide cooling at its optimum levels. It is necessary to get the pressure of the filtering unit tested as it might lead to the problem of poor airflow.

Usually, it is the dust particles that get constantly accumulated in the unit which cause filter problems. Getting the unit cleaned along with its vents and ducts will help in improving the airflow. It helps in clearing the blockage in the filters that was making pressure on the cooling unit of the air conditioner.

Therefore it is very necessary to maintain the air conditioner clean so that it does not gives any trouble during summer season, as it is a primary utility in hot weather conditions. No doubt, a well-maintained unit will ensure high cooling and reasonable electricity bills as per the use of the air conditioner. Thus, if your air conditioner gives any cooling woes, get the air conditioning filters checked immediately.

Importance Of Home Air Conditioning Filters

Importance Of Home Air Conditioning Filters
By Ricky Lim

Having installed an air conditioning system, it becomes imperative for you to think about its upkeep, a major part of which involves cleaning the home air conditioning filters, which are attached to the air conditioner. But you must be wondering why these filters are installed at all and why you need to clean it regularly.

The answer is that the filters are an important component of the air conditioning system because these are the components that keep the heat exchanges and the coils in the air conditioner clean and regulate the quality of air, which is circulated in your house. Thus, choosing the right air filters and changing or cleaning them frequently can help you and your family to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Why is cleaning the home air conditioning filters necessary?

The condition of your air conditioning system determines the air quality in your home. The dirtier the coils or the air conditioning systems, the harder the system has to work because the system needs more energy/electricity to exchange the air which is inside and that which is outside. Thus a clean filtering system can help to prolong the life of your air conditioning unit.

How frequently should the cleaning and changing be done?

The more frequently the cleaning of the home air conditioning filter is done, the better it is for the health of your family. In fact, people with breathing trouble and asthma are advised to be even more particular about the regular cleaning of the home air conditioning filter.

If your house is particularly dusty or you keep pets in your home, it is also advisable to clean the filters more frequently. It is also necessary to keep in mind that home air conditioning filters need to be changed regularly since even the best quality filters lose their efficiency if it is clogged with dirt.

Did You Find The Right Air Conditioner Filter You Are Searching For?

Did You Find The Right Air Conditioner Filter You Are Searching For?
By Ras Reed

The work of the air filter in an air conditioning system is to keep the cooling coils and air inside the home clean and free from all forms of air contaminants such as pet dander and ozone emissions. In the market these days, you will come across different types of air filters such as HEPA, standard, pleated, electrostatic and electronic filters. The popular ones out of these and which can be used to remove air pollutants from air conditioners are the standard, pleated and electrostatic filters. You will find these filters situated in walls, ceilings, furnaces, or right in the air conditioner. The standard air filters, which are made of spun fiberglass with cardboard frames, have the ability to remove 10 percent of the airborne contaminants. It must be changed once every month.

About 35% to 40% of airborne contaminants is usually captured by pleated air filters. Because of their greater surface area with filter material folded back and forth like a paper fan, manufacturers assert that these filters can last between two to four months. You will be expected to part with between $5 to $20 in order to get these filters and this is slightly more than that of standard filters.

Electrostatic filters make use of filter media that use an electric charge to attract the airborne particles. These filters cost range from $20 to $100 each. You only need to change these filters once in every year. But people with allergies consider the use of electronic air filter in air conditioner which functions in the same way as the electrostatic air filters. However, it is more superior to electrostatic air filters because the air flow inside the air conditioning system is not obstructed. Whatever type of air conditioner you have, ensure that a contractor is contracted to check the cleanliness of the filter’s coils at least once in a month.

You should make sure that the air conditioner’s filter is changed on regular basis as clogged and dirty filter will hamper the airflow in the system and reduce its efficiency by harming the coils’ heat-absorbing capacity.

House Air Filter - Advantages of Using Air Filters For Health

House Air Filter - Advantages of Using Air Filters For Health
By Ricky Lim

Air filters are generally used to remove dust particles and other minute unseen particles like pollens and bacteria from the air. They are mainly used in devices where the purity of air is the major factor of operation, such as, ventilation systems, combustion engines, compressors, turbines and the air conditioners.

The air is required to be pure and without dust in places like research laboratories where even a dust of 1ppm or 1 part per million could contaminate the environment and would cause a lot of effect in the research recordings.

House air filters are very necessary in hospitals where patients suffering from wheezing and asthma have to be in a very pure environment free of dust, else their problem could aggravate.

Even in a house where there are babies or old people, care should be taken that they breathe air free of dust to the maximum extent. House air filters and air purifiers can help in this regard.

Things like foam, ruffled paper, fiber glasses are used as air filters. Even fibers and elements that have static electric charge are used as air filters. The internal combustion engine uses filters like paper or cotton.

There are four major types of air filtering medias - they are the paper, foam, synthetic and cotton fabrics. These filters should be serviced regularly and the dirt should be removed regularly so that they work better in the long run.

There are also HVAC (Heating, ventilating and air conditioning) filters available and are manufactured using the fiber glass technology. They are very cost effective and also disposable. There are Universal Air Filters also known as the UAF that are used for filtering the air.

The UAF has an assembly unit that has a filter, fan guard and air flow enclosure. They are used mainly in air conditioners. They have additional protective layer for protecting against flames, UV rays and fungus.

5 Signs That Your Air Conditioner Filter May Be Causing Problems

5 Signs That Your Air Conditioner Filter May Be Causing Problems
By Donald Munn

In an effort to reduce indoor pollution in your home you may actually be impacting your air conditioner in a negative way. Installing a very efficient air conditioner filter is one of those things that can have a negative impact. A high efficiency air filter can negatively impact air conditioner performance. Your ultimate goal is to have the most efficient air conditioner filter possible while having the least impact air conditioner performance.

Five Signs Of Trouble:

1.Evaporator Coil Ices Up

2.Long Run Times

3.Poor Air Flow From The Vents

4.Collapsing Filters

5.Unit Stops Cooling For No Apparent Reason

The Evaporator Ices Up Every Couple Of Months Or Even More Often

This is a common problem with air conditioning equipment and is related to air flow or low load conditions. Air conditioners are designed to have a minimum amount of air flow for each ton of cooling. When air flow falls below design requirements the evaporator coil can ice up. If you are experiencing this problem you can use a slightly less efficient air filter. If this is only a problem every few months then all you need to do is change the filter in you air conditioner more frequently.

Long Run Time Means More Energy Consumption

This is a problem that you may or may not be aware of. If better air quality is more important than slightly higher operating costs then ignore this one, unless you are also experiencing symptom number one also. The solution to this problem is more frequent filter changes or a less efficient filter.

Poor Air Flow From The Vents

Assuming you have a properly sized duct system that has balanced air flow to all rooms you should feel the same amount of air coming from all vents. If you notice that air flow from the vents that are the farthest from the main duct line or on other floors begins to decline as filter change time approaches then you should consider changing your filter more often or using a less efficient filter.

Collapsing Filters

This can happen when filters are in the system too long and they become so dirty and restrict air flow so badly that they actually are sucked right out of the filter rack. More durable filters will stay in the filter rack and cause the same symptoms as number one above. The solution is to change filters more often, use better quality filters or both.

Unit Stops Cooling

Some air conditioner manufacturers install Freeze Stats in air handlers to prevent problems with icing up. When the evaporator temperature becomes too low, a thermostat will open and not allow the compressor to operate. When the evaporator temperature returns to its normal range the thermostat closes and the unit returns to normal operation.

These are some of the most common problems that you may encounter with your air conditioner. The solution to these problems is to change your air conditioner filter regularly, as recommended by the manufacturer. If following manufacturer guidelines does not correct the problem then you may want to consider a filter that has less of an impact on air flow.
